OrchardRelay is a Safari extension and companion app from Townsend Industrial (“we”, “us”). It rewrites links you encounter while browsing so that Spotify links can open in Apple Music and Google Maps links can open in Apple Maps.
The short version: We don’t have accounts, we don’t ask who you are, and we don’t track you or run ads. The only thing that ever leaves your device is the Spotify link the extension resolves and the Apple Music link it resolved to, sent to our resolution service so the match can be cached and reused. Google Maps conversion happens entirely on your device and is never sent anywhere.
What the app does with links
Spotify → Apple Music
When you view or click a Spotify link on a web page, the extension works out the equivalent Apple Music link. To do that it may contact:
- Our resolution service (TourManager,
api.tourmanagerapi.io), to check whether this Spotify item has already been matched, and to report a new match once one is found. - Apple Music’s public catalog API and Spotify’s public metadata endpoints, to identify the item and find its Apple Music equivalent.
When a match is found, we send to our resolution service: the Spotify link, the resolved Apple Music link, and a match-confidence value. These are stored to build a shared mapping database so the same link resolves instantly for everyone next time.
This is the only category of data we collect. Apple classifies it as Browsing History, because it derives from content you viewed or clicked. It is:
- Not linked to your identity. We have no account, no login, no device identifier, and no advertising identifier. Requests are authenticated with a single shared application key that is the same for every copy of the app, so a request cannot be tied back to you or your device.
- Never used for tracking. We do not build a profile, and we do not share this data with data brokers or advertisers.
- Used only to make the app work (resolving and caching link matches).
Google Maps → Apple Maps
Google Maps conversion is performed entirely on your device. The extension rewrites the link locally. Nothing about Google Maps links is ever sent to our service or any third party.
Apple Music library (iOS playlist conversion)
On iPhone and iPad, OrchardRelay can convert a Spotify playlist into an Apple Music library playlist. If you choose to do this:
- You will be asked to grant Apple Music access, and you need an active Apple Music subscription.
- The app reads the playlist’s track list (via Spotify’s public embed, which is limited to the first 100 tracks), resolves each track to Apple Music the same way described above, and creates a new playlist in your own Apple Music library.
- Your Apple Music account, library contents, and subscription status are handled by Apple’s MusicKit on your device. We never receive them.
This feature is only available on iOS. It does not exist on macOS.
What we store, and where
- On your device: your on/off preferences and simple activity counters (stored in the app’s shared storage), a local cache of resolved link matches (which expires automatically), and application credentials (stored in the iOS/macOS Keychain). None of this is personal information.
- On our server: the link-match records described under “Spotify → Apple Music,” which are not associated with any individual.
What we do not do
- No user accounts, sign-in, names, emails, or phone numbers.
- No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
- No third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
- No location collection.
- No selling or sharing of data with data brokers.
Third parties
Resolving links necessarily contacts Apple (Apple Music) and Spotify’s public endpoints, and our own resolution service. Their handling of the requests they receive is governed by their own policies. OrchardRelay is not affiliated with or endorsed by Spotify, Google, or Apple.
Children
OrchardRelay is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age.
Changes
If we change this policy we’ll update the date above and post the new version at orchardrelay.com/privacy.
